Shaking Like a Leaf 2
Continued, believe it or not, from last week.
The steaming remains of the cheese factory… his livelihood. Gone.
On the other hand, he didn’t have to go to work today. He could simply go home, wash the cheese particles out of his hair… err, head, discard his clothes, and jump in the truck and just start driving.
Which is what he did.
His head washed, he gathered up his toothbrush, a handful of comic books from underneath his bed, his laptop, and poured the dishful of mints on the kitchen table into his pocket and headed out the door.
On his way to the truck he twisted the head of the dried out old daisy sitting beside the front porch, absentmindedly, but with the head of the daisy making a dull cracking noise a certain weight ascended into the yellow haze of cheese particles still rushing across the plain as if they were late for that evening’s matinee.
As he pulled out of the dusty driveway a dog, some kind of setter, leapt into the bed of the truck. The two sped off down the road, towards the town, growing less yellow the closer he got.
Back to work and back to Wednesdays at the old Cheese Factory that is Sane Magazine.
